Wonderful update and super helpful to get an accessible digest from inside The Lords, thank you 🙏🏼
I shall be talking to a reporter from Reuters on Monday who is investigating the Greenwashing risk linked to so-called green initiatives from within petrochemicals. Can maybe share notes sometime!
Yes, this is more comprehensive than a twitter glimpse though the short video clips help too. More understanding of how our democracy functions will hopefully allow for key changes.
So glad you're doing this. I have been learning more about the role of the HoL and hope this gets wide circulation. One thing I'm not sure about is, if HoL puts up amendments to Rwanda Bill and it goes back to the Commons, they can simply pass the law anyway? Have I got this right? Diana
Thanks. I think it is important there is much more understanding of how all of government works. To your question: the Commons can strip out the changes we made and send it back to us, but we can then reinsert them and send them back to the Commons. When this happens it is known as ping pong because it bounces back and forth between the chambers. The normal practice is that each time it comes back to us we make fewer changes and those we make are watered down. If we stand firm on exactly the same amendment twice it falls. Sadly not likely to happen as Labour unlikely to stand firm.
